前言

幾年前我在台中東海大學開設推廣教育課程「國貿英文口語書信班」，學員大多是貿易公司的新進員工，或是出口工廠準備接手外銷業務的第二代。每個星期日全天的課程，學員幾乎都不缺席，因為他們需要在最短的時間內，熟悉完整的貿易流程，並且能夠立即上手。

過去二十年來，我替中部許多家機械工廠處理外銷業務，接待國外來訪的客戶。我的黑手老闆們個個胼手胝足，努力打拚。很多人從小型的家庭式工廠，發展成業界知名的國際大廠。

在我多年的職場生涯中沒有太多爾虞我詐，廠商及國外客戶維持友善而且良好的合作關係。職場中真正使用的英語會話成為本書的主軸，結合商業文書，加上多位資深貿易工作者的實戰經驗，希望以活潑有趣的方式，引導貿易新手輕鬆入門。

本書最大的特色是以中文呈現的「實戰TIPS」。這些都是多年的嘗試與摸索所累積的實務經驗，學校裡老師不會教，市面上「貿易英文」相關書籍也看不到。目前大學院校的畢業生，大多已經具備相當的英語能力。商用英文的部份（包括會話及書信），只要提供基本的範例，就足以應付實際的工作。

然而，從新手上路的茫然無措，商務談判的應對，到處理突發狀況，例如不斷有人受害的國際詐騙集團，事先多一分瞭解和準備，才能減少損失，增加成功的機會。從東海大學推廣班的學生身上，我可以看到這些才是大家最迫切需要的。

本書另外一個特色是所有的對話都是職場上真正的「實況會話」。幫我審訂英文的美籍友人給我的評語是「Very realistic and interesting business dialogues.」整個貿易流程像一個劇本，從故事中可以看到買方和賣方的互動情形，他們的用心和努力，以及貿易工作中輕鬆愉快的一面。

行程解說點到為止 
外出郊遊散心不是拚業績，行程不要安排太多。解說景點也不是上課，不需要淊淊不絕，更不能對客戶疲勞轟炸。如果客戶不感興趣，就要適可而止。

參觀風景名勝、人文古蹟時，各人見解不同，歷史人物的功過自在人心，政治的議題只能點到為止。

參觀廟宇時欣賞的是宗教藝術與建築之美，對於不同的信仰都要表示尊重。

不懂的事情不要裝懂，要誠實告知客戶，或是等查證清楚之後再回答。

對話 1 
Mr. Chang介紹原住民風味餐，同時對於原住民的族群數量、分布、生活習性作簡單的說明。畢竟旅遊不是上課，除非遇到同好，有共同的興趣，才會針對某項議題深入討論，否則點到為止就好了。

不同的種族必須互相尊重，平等對待。帶有偏見或歧視的玩笑都應該避免。

對話 2 & 3

Mr. Chang介紹昔日蔣介石總統的行館與專屬的教堂，涵碧樓紀念館及耶穌堂。

介紹政治或歷史人物時，只能說明客觀的事實。不論是正面或負面的評價，都可能觸動聽者的敏感神經，必須謹慎小心。

對話 4

玩了一整天，走累了，找一家舒適的咖啡廳欣賞湖景，輕鬆地閒聊。Mr. Chang向客人致意，希望他們喜歡今天安排的行程。

Mr. Smith: This coffee shop provides an awesome view of the lake. The sunset on the lake is so beautiful.
Mr. Davidson: I like the coffee and the cake, very impressive and delicious.
Ted: Well, we had everything on Sun Moon Lake. We had the full-range 3D tours:  we went cycling on the land, sailed the boat, and rode the gondola for a bird's-eye view of the lake.
Mr. Chang: I hope you enjoy your trip today.
Mr. Smith: Yes, very good. Thank you.
Mr. Davidson: You can take your wife here and stay in the most luxurious lake view hotel.
Mr. Smith: Good idea.

Mr. Smith: 這個咖啡館有漂亮的湖景。湖水映照著夕陽真是美麗!

Dialogue 3: In Front of the Sanctuary of Christ

Mr. Smith: It’s nice to take a leisure walk by the lake.
Mr. Chang: The Hanbi Lakeside Trail is one of the popular tourist attractions here. In front of us is The Sanctuary of Christ. It was built in the seventies for the exclusive use of the late President Chiang and his wife Madame Chiang. This well-built chapel survived the 921 Earthquake unscathed.
Mr. Smith: Do they still have church services?
Mr. Chang: Yes, the church is reopened to the general public and tourists. Let’s take a look. Not far from here, we will see a pavilion where late President Chiang Kai Shek often visited on his vacation.

Mr. Smith: 在湖邊輕鬆地散步真好!
Mr. Chang: 涵碧步道是此地熱門的旅遊景點之一。前面就是耶穌堂，建於七十年代，專供蔣故總統和他的夫人使用。這個精心打造的小教堂在921大地震時毫髮無損。
Mr. Smith: 現在還有禮拜聚會嗎?

Mr. Chang: The Lalu Memorial Hall used to be a Guesthouse of Chiang Kai-shek for him to stay while travelling on inspection tours and holidays. It was destroyed and then rebuilt after the 921 earthquake.
Mr. Davidson: Is there a wall of fame outside the hall?
Mr. Chang: Yes, celebrities visited and left their hand prints and signatures here, including politicians and pop stars, but most of the names are little known.
Mr. Smith: These are very old pictures.
Mr. Chang: Yes, they preserve historical facts and provides introduction to the indigenous Thao people. Late president Chiang Kai-shek also received a lot of important foreign guests here.

Mr. Chang: 涵碧樓紀念館以前是蔣介石考察及度假所住的賓館，921地震損毀之後重建。
Mr. Davidson: 館外是否有一道名人牆?
Mr. Chang: 有。有一些政治家和明星到此一遊，並且留下手印和簽名。不過大部分的名字都很少人聽過。

Mr. Smith: What’s the difference?
Mr. Chang: The foods of Taiwan’s aborigines feature unique, rustic flavor and freshness. 
Mr. Davidson: Shall we eat with our fingers?
Mr. Chang: No, this is a restaurant for tourists.
Mr. Smith: How many aboriginal tribes are there in Taiwan?
Mr. Chang: There are 14 tribes officially recognized by the Taiwan government. Most of them live in the mountains or near the sea. They have to make use of whatever nature can offer to make a living. For example, the Thao tribe lives around Sun Moon Lake, and they have fish as a main source of food.

Mr. Chang: 今天中午我們要品嚐原住民風味餐。
Mr. Smith: 有什麼不一樣?
Mr. Chang: 台灣原住民的食物具有獨特，質樸的風味，而且新鮮。
Mr. Davidson: 我們要用手指頭吃飯嗎?
Mr. Chang: 不是。這是一間專門接待遊客的餐廳。
Mr. Smith: 台灣有有多少原住民?
Mr. Chang: 目前已經被政府正式承認的台灣原住民族有14族，大多分布住在山區或是海邊。他們必須利用大自然所提供的資源維生。例如，住在日月潭附近的邵族人民，就用魚作為主要的食物來源。
